About

Greetings and thank you for visiting Apples and Arteries!

I’m an active woman living in Madison, WI.  I love living a healthy life — including running, walking the dog, Spinning, yoga, and Pilates.

I started this blog as a way to join the healthy-living community and share my journey of finding balance — balance with food, exercise, and life!

On the blog you’ll see Noshing (recipes), Exercise, Grab Bag (travel, reads, recommendations, etc.), Science Club (resources, including links to studies, reports, articles on health issues) and Random Thoughts (reflections on a healthy lifestyle and odd’s and end’s).

I love to tinker in the kitchen…you’ll see a variety of my own recipes and links to recipes I’ve found and tried.  You’ll also see Labradors Kostas and Tucker…they are quite the characters.

My journey to living a healthy life started when I was 18…my father had a heart attack at age 46 – just weeks after I graduated from high school.  He recovered, family eating habits changed, and my dad is going strong – exercising, working, traveling, living!  Heart disease runs in my family and it’s something that is in the back of my mind.  Approximately 5 years ago I was 30 lbs heavier…life got in the way – a new job, a new city, a new living arrangement.  Fast forward to some thyroid health issues and I knew I had to get smart and make some changes.

I greet everyday with a positive attitude and choose to be conscientious when it comes to health and wellness.  For the past few years I’ve been reading a number of great blogs and am ready to join the community.  Hence, Apples and Arteries is here!  Apples because I love to eat apples – fresh, farmer’s market/local orchard apples;  Arteries because that addresses the health/heart aspect of my cooking preferences and lifestyle.

You can find me on Twitter or email me at applesandarteries@gmail.com.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing my journey.

  1. This is great! You really do look like Kate Middleton. I will have to try the muffin recipe – our favorite grab and go breakfast for a hectic morning!

  2. Hi! I was recently linked to get the Leibster award and I chose you for the next round because I like your blog so much! Check it out on my latest post and pass it on… and I agree with SKW, you DO look like Kate Middleton!
