Today is National Flip Flop Day (who knew?) which made me think it’s a good time to share a few of my favorite Summer sun products that keep my skin safe and healthy through the warm and sunny months ahead.
I was a lifeguard all through high school and college and loved it! I would work 70+ hours a week–teaching swimming lessons, guarding, training, cleaning, and it was all out in the hot sun. As a 15/16 year old first year guard I remember seeing the “older” (22 year old) guards using baby oil as their sunscreen. The horror! My mom (thankfully) was always reminding me to use sunscreen. I have very sensitive skin and have had my share of skin reactions to various sunscreens. During the last few years I’ve found products that work–they protect my skin and I don’t have breakouts/rashes/reactions.
Here are a few of my favorites–I bought these on my own and have not been compensated to share these products with you. (Note–photos are from the product websites.)
Coppertone Oil Free Sunscreen–This is the best! It goes on light, it’s non-greasy, oil free, there’s no scent, and it lasts. There’s nothing worse than having sunscreen melt all over you in the hot weather. This sunscreen doesn’t disappear as you sweat and is perfect for sensitive skin. (I buy this at CVS; price is usually between $10-$12/bottle.)
Vichy Capital Soleil SPF 30 Soft Sheer Sunscreen–This is new for me this Summer. I have used it a few times when I’ve been out in the sun for about an hour at a time. So far, so good. It’s a bit thicker than the Coppertone and more expensive ($28-$30/bottle) but works well. It absorbs quickly into the skin and I didn’t even feel/notice that I had sunscreen on. No rash, no burn. (Purchased online.)
Eucerin Daily Protection SPF 15 Moisturizing Body Lotion–This is my day-to-day lotion. I appreciate knowing I have SPF protection on my skin when I’m out and about. The lotion is light-weight, absorbs quickly and is fragrance-free. It’s a lotion that really lasts all day. This product costs about $9-$11/bottle and is available at a variety of stores and online.
Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream–Apparently beauty balm is all the rage. I like to use it because it’s so many products in one: moisturizer, skin perfector, SPF. This saves me a couple of skin prep steps in the AM and goes on quickly and easily. Anything that doesn’t require an extra beauty tool is a win in my book! The B.B. Cream includes SPF 15 protection without grease. This is available at drugstores and online and costs $11-$13/tube.
What are your favorite Summer sun products?
I love the Aveeno facial lotion with 15 SPF. I also use it on my neck, chest, and hands.
I’m glad it wasn’t national flip-flop day here because it’s been freezing!
I never used to wear sun cream as a teenager because I wanted to get brown but I’ve got fair skin and always burned… now I use factor 30 all summer, even in this country!
